Description
Two female students from Hall High School in West Hartford sit on picnic benches outside of what looks like a house and discuss what they believe the purpose of the current school system is and what they believe it should be. The girl with the glasses speaks first, stating that she believes the current school system’s purpose is to turn out workers. The other student says that school is not about learning what you care about or discussing any issues, but rather to say that you have gone through the motions to get the degree. She mentions that when her friend visited from Loomis Chaffee, a nearby private school, he was amazed that students couldn’t voice their opinions. She also talks about the competition in school and that the only reason why she is going is to school is for her parents and because it is some form of security. One of the students suggests that school should me more open and personal, where students learn something that will be useful and meaningful in life. She discusses an experience she had of being disciplined in a Florida school before she moved to the Hartford area.
